Mackinac Island Accommodations

Some people visit Mackinac Islands only during the daytime and leave on the last ferry to mainland. Undoubtedly, they are missing the major part of the fun. Mackinac Island isn’t something you can see in a day. When there are so many accommodation options available, staying for a couple of days to explore the island completely and savor the natural beauty is worthwhile.

Mackinac Island provides many accommodation facilities that include bed and breakfast, hotels, motels, resorts, inns and condos. While the bed and breakfast accommodations are modestly priced the big hotels are cheap in comparison to their counterparts in the big cities. And the hotels are by no means just ordinary ones.

For example, Grand Hotel on the island has a porch that is equal to two football fields, the world’s largest hotel porch. Constructed in 1887, the Grand Hotel is a part of the island’s history and stands majestically serving guests still today. Travel+Liesure magazine has voted Grand Hotel as one of the top resorts for family vacation. The rates per person start at $210 daily, which include breakfast and a five-course dinner. The rate goes up to $645 per person for luxury rooms. Each of these rooms is elegantly decorated by Carleton Varney of New York. Mini-bar, in room safe, cable TV, iron and coffee maker are the standard features of every guestroom. Children below 11 years are accommodated and fed free of cost, and children above 11 years are charged a moderate price.

Even the Masco Cottage in Grand Hotel is quite affordable if you are travelling in a group of eight or more. The cottage has four bedrooms and comes at $2999 per night, that is $375 per person. In addition to breakfast and dinner you get the lunch for free here. There is a kitchen and a well-stocked refrigerator in the cottage. A chef can be engaged to cook meals of your choice, if you are staying additional nights. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres are served before dinner in the cottage. A stay in Masco Cottage enables you to avail discount on ferry tickets.

The named suites in Grand Hotel offer a choice of selecting from a number of suites like the Lincoln suite, Jefferson suite, Hollywood suite etc. A unique feature of this hotel is that tipping is neither expected nor permitted. Grand Hotel is proud to have hosted a lecture by Mark Twain and filming of a few movies like Somewhere in Time, starring Christopher Reeve, John Seymore and Christopher Plummer.

Golf, swimming, Tennis, horseback riding and exercise are some of the activities that you can indulge in at the Grand Hotel. All this at such an affordable price is really unbelievable.
